I’m back from the Dominican now, pics are up on facebook(if you have me on facebook) and they will be up on the gallery soon too. Needless to say it was a great time, and it was good to have one solid week to shut my brain off before jumping head on into work this summer.

I just finished my first week of work at the new job and have started work on my first project. My project is to write a python-cgi application that will shutdown entire computer labs or individual clients as well as be able to wake them up using Wake on LAN. For my first week a lot of the work was just getting used to the system they already have in place for the current LabNET webtools. For a first project this one wasn’t too hard and I am almost finished I just need to do a little more testing of the shutdown feature and go through some more tests with individual clients of the Wake on Lan feature(due to the fact I wrote my own implementation of Wake On LAN and it probably wont work first try ) . Working on the first project was not completely without hiccups though, Friday afternoon I shut down the web server for all the Lab Assistant web tools by accident while testing my shutdown feature Little bit of absentmindedness on my part, good thing it was only the web server for the web tools!

The hard drive died in my home computer so its been kind of hard to get any kind of work done at home but I’m going to make a dedicated effort to go into work early and stay late to get a fair amount of the work done on my SOC project over the next couple of weeks. I have started the dialog with my mentor Peter Westood about the first part of my project that I am starting, threaded commenting in WordPress. From an algorithmic point of view threaded commenting is not very difficult at all, but I just want to be sure that everything is done in a way that pleases the WordPress community and satisfies my mentor and the organization so having a good dialog good is very important in that sense and I hope that as I progress there will be lots of discussion on the Wordpress Summer of code 2007 discussion group as well as regular blogging on here. Anyone who has any comments or suggestions relating to my SOC project, feel free to send me an email or post a comment on here, it will definitely be appreciated.

Another thing kinda related to summer of code is the fact that I was mentioned on The WordPress Podcast which is pretty cool, even though they completely got my name wrong and made fun of it! Hah, its OK though , nothing I haven’t heard before, but just for anyone who is wondering the last name “Grouchy” is pronounced “grew-she” pretty easy eh? Anyway, just wanted to mention that, I thought it was kind of funny and cool as well , thats all I’ve got for now more update to come soon and regularly.
